Josh had his hands full recently when he went to tackle this master bathroom that included all outside walls as well as large walk in shower.
The selection for this particular job was made by the decorator. It is a slate mosaic that was mounted with a paper facing by Oceanside Glass. In this picture you can see that Josh is setting some of the 12" x 12" sheets and using his level to make sure that all is straight and true. The paper facing is made wet and carefully removed at just the right time.

Working at the beach in the summer can pose some of it's own problems. At this job, our times that we were allowed to work were somewhat limiting and the town of South Bethany Beach enforced these criteria with a $100.00 fine.

In this picture below, Josh is putting the finishing touches on a shampoo niche in the master shower. These niches are framed out ahead of time and wrapped with tile backer and then coated with a waterproof membrane to assure that they will always be impervious to any overspray from the shower head.

One of the many obstacles to overcome was the fact that the there was plenty of glue left behind from the paper facing. In the shot below assistant Beers is shown using a nylon scrub brush to scrub the glue off of the face of the slate. He used hot water as well and washed the stone several times to make everything ready for grouting.
And finally the finished product. We used Permagrout by Laticrete to insure one uniform color throughout the bathroom. One coat of sealer was installed on all the slate prior to grouting and another coat installed after grouting. We like to use a sealer by Aqua Mix called Sealer's Choice Gold 15. Note the iridescent nature of the slate in the middle of the shower back wall. Yes, this wall is curved!
